How They Met
Hailey says, “Justin and I met in high school, but were never close friends. However, because we had many friends in common, there became a joke about me being “Hailey Paley” and it stuck. I was called Hailey Paley by multiple people LONG before Justin and I ever even considered dating! Justin traveled after college and spent time in numerous places throughout the world including Australia and Asia. I moved to Charleston, SC where I gained my graduate degree. We both returned to Richmond around the same time and ran into each other at Gold’s Gym. He lured me in with promises of a boat ride that never happened, but it got my attention and we have been together ever since!”
How He Asked
Justin proposed to Hailey at Momotaro Sushi in Carytown, which is also where they had their first date. Hailey says, “We were the only customers in the restaurant when he did it, and I screamed and frightened all of the staff!”
The Perfect Place
The two had been to many weddings in Richmond, so they wanted to find a venue that would be uniquely theirs. Justin loves the outdoors and Hailey grew up riding horses in Goochland, so the beautiful Clover Forest Plantation fit their styles perfectly. Hailey especially loved the four antique crystal chandeliers that hung over the reception space and the ceremony altar. She and Justin wanted soft colors and a romantic vintage feel, so they chose grey and blush pink for their colors.
Hailey and Justin kept the vintage feel alive with their Polaroid station. Each guests got to take Polaroids and leave notes on them. There two also came up with a signature drink, the “Haypay.” It was a cucumber and mint cocktail that was perfectly refreshing – their October wedding took place on a 90 degree day!
The bride says, “The biggest challenge was sticking to a budget and making sure that I respected Justin’s preferences, even though he didn’t always agree with what I wanted (i.e, having pink as a main color!). Honestly, between my mom and my amazing wedding planner, Liz Singleton Palmer, I didn’t have too many challenges! They took care of all of the tough stuff and my part was fun!”
Congratulations on your one year anniversary this October, Paleys!
