We took a little break from our networking series last week to bring you a timely post on tips for submitting weddings, but now we’re back to talking about the importance of networking! Our last post on this topic talked about the WHY, so now we’ll give you some tips on HOW!
When you decide it’s time to GO to a networking event, here are some tips that will help you make the most of it:
Bring Your Business Cards
This might seem like a no-brainer, but sometimes you need a reminder to restock your wallet or bag with plenty of business cards! At Richmond Weddings networking events, we let everyone who attends place their business cards on a table. Our regular attendees love picking up cards for new people they see!
Go with a Goal
Make sure you have some goals in mind when you head to an event. You can even start small with just GOING! Then when you go to the next event, tell yourself you’re going to go out of your way to chat with three people you haven’t met before.
Help the New Faces
If you’re someone who is super comfortable with networking (like some of our regulars!), make it your new goal to help some new faces you see. If there’s a first-time networker at your table, for instance, make a special effort to get to know them and introduce them to others! They will appreciate your warmth so much and may eventually return the favor with referrals!
To be 100% real with you, the dress code in the RW office is pretty casual, but we do make the effort to put on our business best when it comes to networking events! You’re representing your business and likely meeting some new folks for the first time, so it’s important to look well put together and professional so that you make a stellar first impression!
When you reach your goal of meeting some new people, be sure to follow up with them! Don’t be afraid to send them a friend request, find them on Instagram or shoot them a quick email saying, “Hey, it was great meeting you at the Richmond Weddings lunch! I hope to see you at more events like today’s!” It’s quick, it’s simple and it shows that you care.
Lastly, be confident! You don’t have to memorize a sales pitch or feel like you have to sell yourself . . . just BE yourself! We say all the time that Richmond has an incredibly warm and welcoming wedding community, and it’s true! So take these tips to heart and put yourself out there!
If you’re ready to test out these tips at a networking event, mark your calendars for our next RW Networking Mixer on Thursday, May 14th from 5:30 until 7:30PM. We’ll be checking out Goodrich Gourmet’s new space! Get your tickets here!
